Batman

A Star studded cast was brought in for The Dark Knight (sequel to Batman Begins) familiar faces reprise roles such as Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne), Michael Caine (Alfred Pennyworth), Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman, new faces include Heath Ledger (the Joker), Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent) and Maggie Gyllenhaal. The stellar cast delivers director Christopher Nolan’s vision and interpretation of the comic book stories flawlessly. Nolan has taken Gotham City to a level never seen before, criminals are running the streets while the Cities leaders are as corrupt as the mafia, Batman is faced with the dilemma of if what he is doing is enough or if what he is doing is a detriment to society.

The Plot

This is not your average action packed Super Hero movie, The Dark Knight is dramatic, dark, twisted and unforgettable. The movie starts with Batman joining forces with the DA Harvey Dent and Lieutenant James Gordon they start rounding up the criminals successfully, that is until the mysterious and merciless Joker appears. The Joker unleashes a web of chaos over Gotham and tries to hold Batman’s secret identity hostage, he threatens to kill one person for each day Batman remains anonymous. Dent and Rachel (Batmans love interest) are kidnapped and tied up on opposite sides of a building rigged to explode, Batman and Gordon rush to save them but only Dent survives, he is badly disfigured. The Joker convinces Dent to avenge Rachel’s death; Batman learns of this rampage and defeats Dent saving Gordon’s family. Batman convinces Gordon to hold him responsible for the deaths caused by Dent insisting that Dent be portrayed as a Hero, Batman becomes a fugitive and the closing scenes show Gordon destroying the Bat signal.
The Dark Knight was nominated for eight Academy Awards and made over $1 billion worldwide, making it not only one of the most successful Batman movie but also the most successful comic book adaptation.
